The case for printing the one you keep scrolling past

Here is a thing I have noticed delivering galleries for fifteen years. There is always one frame a family goes back to. They do not necessarily say so. They just keep scrolling past it and stopping. Then they order the one with the nice smile for the graduation card, and the one they kept stopping on stays on the phone.

Print that one.

Phones are a bad place to keep things

Not because the screens are bad. Because phones are for now. They get replaced, photos get buried under ten thousand screenshots, and the cloud account lapses when someone forgets a password. A print on a wall is the only version of a photograph that gets looked at every day without anyone deciding to look at it.

What I actually recommend

One large piece for the house, 16×20 or bigger, framed, of the frame that made you stop. A small set of 5x7s for the grandparents, because they will not ask and they want them more than anyone. And the graduation cards, obviously. Every session comes with a print credit so the first piece is already partly paid for.

Paper choice matters less than people think and more than the internet says. I print on an archival matte stock that does not glare under lamps and will not fade in a sunny room. If you want to see it before you choose, I will bring samples to your ordering session.

Galleries are for choosing. Walls are for keeping.
